UK’s Minister for the Middle East visits Jordan

AMMAN — Lord (Tariq) Ahmad, British Minister for the Middle East and the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, is visiting Jordan this week for the first time since his appointment.
He will be attending the wedding celebrations of HRH Crown Prince Hussein and Miss Rajwa Khalid Alseif, said a British embassy statement.
Lord Ahmad said: “I’m delighted that my first visit to Jordan since becoming the UK’s Minister for the Middle East will be to join celebrations of the wedding of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein and Miss Rajwa Khalid Alseif.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to them both and to the Hashemite Royal Family on this joyous occasion. Lady Ahmad and I are honoured to be a part of these special events and we wish the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness together.”
During his visit, Lord Ahmad will meet political leaders in Jordan and highlight the importance of the UK-Jordan relationship and "our ever-closer bilateral, security and trade cooperation". The UK is committed to working with Jordan to advance regional stability and economic development.
The minister added: “Jordan is an important strategic partner for the UK and our two countries enjoy unique bonds of friendship developed over more than a century of cooperation.
“I pay tribute to the remarkable generosity Jordan has shown in hosting refugees from regional conflicts. Our partnership with Jordan is focused on delivering sustainable and inclusive growth, security and prosperity for the benefit of both our peoples.”
Lord Ahmad is expected to meet Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the strong strategic partnership between the UK and Jordan, the latest regional developments and Jordan’s vital role in promoting peace and stability.
He is also due to meet the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to discuss reaching an inclusive political settlement to the conflict in Yemen.
