AMMAN — Around 25 professionals of the technical and vocational education training (TVET) sector on Tuesday took part in a training needs assessment workshop, organised within the framework of the EU-funded “Skills for Employment and Social Inclusion Programme (SESIP)", implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation.

The workshop aims at equipping the TVET specialists with methods and techniques that would enable them to develop training needs assessment programmes for TVET teachers, trainers and supervisors, in line with the Jordanian Standard Classification of Education and the National Qualification Framework, among others, a joint statement said.

This involves conducting analysis of training policies, occupational and job analysis, developing curricula, organising resources, implementation, evaluation and validation of training programmes.

“On the short term, our aim is to enhance the competences of the TVET professionals based on the identification of their needs and relevant training schemes, on the long term it is about developing their career paths,” said workshop manager Abdelbasit Saleh, who is also the SESIP key expert responsible for the curricula development and training of trainers (ToT) programme.

He added: “A TVET training system that delivers high quality education and training will produce graduates who are well-prepared for the job market and are valued by their employers, which will enable the system to attract more students based on improved career prospects.”

Funded by the EU, SESIP provides technical assistance and capacity development to the employment, technical and vocational education training (E-TVET) sector, for the implementation of the E-TVET Strategy 2014-2020, National Employment Strategy 2011-2020 and Human Resources Development Strategy 2016-2025.

It is run in partnership with the ministries of education, higher education and scientific research, social development and labour as well as civil society organisations.

SESIP focuses on six thematic areas which include governance, curricula development and ToT, quality assurance  and accreditation, social inclusion for disadvantaged groups in E-TVET services and labour market information  systems, involvement of business  associations  and civil society in the
E-TVET reform, in addition to communication and visibility, the statement concluded.
