District Mayor Baker Kaabneh told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the fire erupted over an area of 150 dunums with trees and dry grass.
The swift response of the Civil Defence Department and forest directorates’ personnel prevented the fire from spreading further. Kaabneh said that a total of 50 trees were completely burnt, while 200 others were partially damaged.
He urged the public to report any cases of violations in forest areas, whether arson or illegal logging.
