Workshop reviews national strategy for municipal solid waste management

AMMAN — The Ministry of Local Administration together with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) organised a workshop to review and update the national strategy for municipal solid waste management.
The workshop, conducted in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Industry and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, discussed the Solid Waste Management in Jordan-SoWas, which is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
Speaking with The Jordan Times, director of the solid waste management department at the ministry Raeda Oran, highlighted the importance of applying circular economics “in which take-make-dispose paradigms are used”.
He noted that developing the national strategy is in line with the climate change policy.
During the workshop, Maen Manasra, representative of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, together with other representatives from the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, discussed the state of affairs surrounding solid waste management.
The workshop, mainly attended by government officials and private sector representatives, delved into the challenges that impede the growth of both the local industrial and commercial sectors.
