Young woman dies, 37 students injured after bus overturns on Zarqa-Mafraq road

AMMAN — A young woman died and 37 others were injured after a bus carrying students from the Hashemite University overturned on the Zarqa-Mafraq road near Zarqa University on Sunday, according to the Zarqa Civil Defence Department (CDD).
The Zarqa CDD said in a statement that the body of the deceased woman was transferred to Zarqa Governmental Hospital along with the injured students, who were administered first aid on site.
The injured students' general condition was described as fair, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Muhyiddine Touq checked on the students, who are recovering at Zarqa Governmental Hospital, Petra reported.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the minister instructed the president of the university to provide the injured students and their families with all assistance necessary, especially in regards to the completion of their studies during the current semester.
He expressed his appreciation for the rapid response of the CDD and the Public Security Department in dealing with the accident, as well as the efforts of the Director of the Zarqa Governmental Hospital and the hospital's medical and administrative staff.
Touq also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased student.
