AMMAN — The Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the Norwegian government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Jordan, on Saturday launched a volunteer team, comprised of youth, to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The team, in partnership with local communities, will work to increase vaccination rates, inspect the degree of commitment to defence orders, and raise awareness of preventative measures to face the coronavirus in the Kingdom.
Two-hundred and forty trained and qualified young volunteers, male and female, from all governorates will join the team.
During the ceremony, Interior Minister Mazen Faraiah said that state institutions, under the directives and follow-up of HRH Crown Prince Hussein and Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, have exerted great efforts to secure vaccinations, establish vaccination centres and motivate people to take the vaccine.
He pointed out that the formation of this team is an opportunity to integrate youth, in implementation of His Majesty King Abudallah and the Crown Prince’s directives on the necessity of communicating with and involving young people.
Norwegian Ambassador Espen Evjenth Lindback praised Jordan’s efforts to provide vaccines to its entire population. Lindback expressed hope that this initiative, supported by Norway, would encourage more people to register for the vaccine.
UNDP Resident Representative Sara Olivella stressed the importance of the initiative to increase the demand for vaccinations and raise awareness levels, highlighting the need to adhere to preventive and public safety measures.
