Zakat Fund allocates JD500,000 to pay indebted women loans

AMMAN — The Zakat Fund’s board of directors on Monday approved allocating JD500,000 to “Sahm Al Gharimat” (funds allocated for indebted women).

During a meeting chaired by Awqaf Minister Abdul Nasser Abul Bassal, chairman of the Zakat Fund, members of the board also approved the 10th batch of Sahm Al Gharimat at a total amount of JD55,000, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The money will be used to pay out amounts ranging between JD200 and JD1,200 to help release 101 women who were imprisoned after failing to pay back their loans. Since its launch, Sahm Al Gharimat has paid the loans of 678 indebted women and inmates.
