AMMAN — Mohammed Tayseer on Friday was crowned champion of the fourth round of the Speed Test Championship held at the SOFEX Racetrack with the participation of 50 drivers including one from Oman.
With this win, Tayseer added 20 precious points to lead the standings with 78 points, followed by Ayman Najjar with 62 points and Ghaith Edwan with 46 points.
Tayseer clocked 1m08.79s in his Mitsubishi Evo 6 while Najjar clocked 1m09.52s in his Mitsubishi Evo Proto and Najjar now needs to win the coming two rounds to capture the title.
Edwan clocked 1m10.22s in his Mitsubishi Evo 7 to secure third place.
Tayseer said after the race that he is happy with the result.
“It was not an easy race and I felt the heat from my closest opponents but I managed to have the best time and win this crucial round,” he said.
“I still need to be careful in the next two rounds as anything can happen. My closest rival needs to win the two final rounds to win the title. That, although hard, is possible and that is why I need to be ready,” he added.
Yazan Qatan settled in fourth place with 1m12.21s, Ehab Shurafa in fifth place with 1m11.03s and Khatchik Shadian in sixth spot with 1m11.45s.
Meanwhile, Othman Naseef, Jordan Motorsport CEO said that the rivalry between Tayseer and Najjar is on again.
“We will have to wait to the fifth and sixth rounds to see if Najjar will turn the tables on Tayseer as his win in them will make him champion. This season’s championship is really challenging and exciting,” he said.
The only woman participant Lina Hadidi won the Female Participant Cup.
