Traffic jam in Amman

It goes without saying that Amman has a large traffic problem and the gridlock on the city’s streets is getting worse. It is notable that drivers spend a long time stuck in rush hour traffic.

It is no exaggeration to say that you need to wait about one hour to take a ride that should usually take you 15 minutes!

However, telling your manager that you were caught in a traffic jam is not an acceptable excuse.

Since this irritating issue is increasing, a set of serious procedures should be taken in order to tackle it.

In my opinion, one of the solutions is for the government to remove all restrictions on mobile transportation applications, because it will allow people to leave their vehicles at home and use these services, which would eventually reduce the volume of traffic.

A rail system is a long term solution, as many large cities, like London and New York, have realised that a longer term solution is eventually necessary to transport large populations. That solution is often a light rail or metro system, typically underground.

It is a natural progression after something like the Bus Rapid Transit project. As the population continues to grow, it will be a necessity for Amman to have a rail system.
