AMMAN — A total of 13 major Jordanian companies specialised in the food industry are scheduled to take part in the Fancy Food Show 2023 in New York on Sunday.
The Jordan Exporters Association (JEA) will participate in the three-day event. The participating local companies are specialised in Arab desserts, spices, thyme, nuts and coffee, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
JEA General Manager Halim Abu Rahmeh said in a statement on Saturday that Jordan's participation represents an opportunity to get acquainted with new trading partners globally and access promising markets, especially to that Jordan has free trade agreements.
Abu Rahmeh noted that the exhibition constitutes the largest event specialised in food and beverages in North America, and attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over the world.
The JEA has been participating in the exhibition since 2013, as part of its plans and programmes to support and enable the industry to enter new markets, he said.
Participation in international exhibitions is a "successful" way to promote exports and get access to new markets in order to achieve the goals of the executive programme of the Economic Modernisation Vision in increasing national exports during the next three years to more than JD9 billion, he added.
Abu Rahmeh noted that the US is one of the "strongest" markets in terms of purchasing power and is a promising destination for national exports.
The Kingdom signed a free trade agreement with the US in 2000 with the aim of boosting economic, trade and investment cooperation.
During the first quarter of 2023, national exports to the US increased by 8 per cent to JD394 million, compared with JD365 million for the same period last year, according to official data cited by Petra.
