AMMAN — The 15th pan-Arab youth conference kicked off on Sunday under the title, "The Role of the Arab Youth in National Security and World Peace".

Deputising for his HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Youth Minister Makram Qaisi inaugurated the seven-day event during which young participants from 16 Arab states will work on formulating a joint Arab vision to counter terrorism and violent extremism, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Qaisi underlined the Crown Prince's efforts to enhance the role of the young people in achieving security and everlasting peace and giving them more say on international issues, highlighting Prince Hussein's efforts  to promote pro-youth initiatives, including the Jordan-proposed UN 2250 Resolution on Youth.

The Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security was adopted in December 2015 following Prince Hussein’s speech as the chair of the UN Security Council meeting in 2015

The UNSC’s resolution “urges member states to consider ways to increase inclusive representation of youth in decision making at all levels” and “calls on all relevant actors, including when negotiating and implementing peace agreement, to take into account… the participation and views of youth, recognising that their marginalisation is detrimental to building sustainable peace in all societies”.

The meeting was organised in cooperation with the Arab League.
