AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Monday visited the Foreign Ministry, where Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh acquainted him with the ministry's measures in follow-up of the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2250.
The resolution was adopted following Crown Prince Hussein initiative on the role of the youth in enhancing peace and combating extremism, after he addressed a UN Security Council’s meeting on “maintenance of international peace and security: The role of youth in countering violent extremism and promoting peace”, in April, 2015.
The Crown Prince was the youngest ever person to address the council.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon tasked the UN Peacebuilding Support Office, the UN office CEO and the UN secretary general’s envoy on youth to prepare a report on the implementation of the resolution and identify the necessary budget, before presenting it in January 2017, on the second anniversary of its adoption.
Prince Hussein expressed his satisfaction with the efforts exerted by the ministry’s personnel and their diplomatic endeavours to serve the country and its citizens, especially the young people, across the globe, according to a Royal Court statement.
Judeh outlined Jordanian diplomacy’s efforts to address issues and challenges facing the Middle East, noting that the ministry follows strategic guidelines to achieve and maintain regional peace, security and stability.
The deputy prime minister also went over the Jordanian foreign policy priorities, topped by the Palestinian issue, and the ministry’s measures to meet the responsibilities related to the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, in cooperation with other stakeholders.
At a meeting with ambassadors and directors of the ministry’s departments, Prince Hussein was briefed on the role of diplomatic missions in achieving Jordan’s external policies, safeguarding Jordanian interests, enhancing the Kingdom’s regional and international status and serving Jordanian expatriates.
