72% of Jordanians covered by health insurance — Insurance Directorate

AMMAN — About 72 per cent of Jordanians are covered by various types of health insurance, according to Nael Adwan, head of the Health Ministry's Insurance Directorate.
In press remarks to mark International Universal Health Coverage Day, which falls on December 12, Adwan said that the Jordanians' percentage within the category of civil health insurance is 43 per cent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Subscribers to civil health insurance in the Kingdom total 3.464 million, including 650,000 children under the age of six, 1.408 million people who are beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund and the elderly above 60 and underprivileged families, as well as 928,000 public employees and 433,000 retirees and their families, in addition to 23,784 people with an optional subscription.
