AMMAN — The Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) and the United Enterprises Company on Tuesday signed a $7.7 million agreement to monitor water supply performance, as part of a water loss project funded by USAID.
At the ceremony attended by USAID representatives, Water Minister Mohammad Najjar announced that the agreement would enhance water service monitoring, determine nationwide water network supply quantities and eliminate estimation when calculating water losses, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that the ministry is working on reducing water loss coming from network and infrastructure degradation, meter inaccuracies and water theft.
Najjar also expressed the ministry's commitment to lowering water losses to below 25 per cent by 2040, enhancing water resource utilisation efficiency and water supply infrastructure.
The minister conveyed the government's gratitude for the US' unwavering support to the water sector through the long-standing partnership with USAID.
