Aqaba Container Terminal records positive growth despite pandemic — CEO

AMMAN — The Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), a joint project of Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) and APM Terminals, in 2020 recorded positive growth despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The data showed improvement in the terminal’s activities in 2020 in comparison with 2019, with handling increased by 7 per cent, loaded trucks by 6 per cent, truck movements by 3 per cent, export containers by 11 per cent and transit containers by 41 per cent, CEO of ACT Steven Yoogalingam said on Saturday.

Yoogalingam, in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said that a set of latest mechanisms and equipment, two reach stackers, two empty handlers and 14 tractor terminals, among others were introduced to improve the company’s works.

The company has continued investing in updating the technological infrastructure to provide quality services and protecting public health, notably via adopting e-payments and containers tracking systems.

ACT Executive Director Khalil Abu Al Hawa said that the company has increased its productivity thanks to the sustainability efforts made during the pandemic. Abu Al Hawa highlighted the measures taken to meet the Kingdom's needs of commodities amid the pandemic.
