AMMAN — A Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) official said border guards shot and wounded two infiltrators who illegally crossed the border at 1pm on Tuesday, coming from Syria.
The two men did not respond to border guards’ procedural warnings, prompting the troops to open fire in line with the rules of engagement observed in such cases. The two were evacuated “to the nearest medical centre to receive first aid before they are referred to concerned authorities”. The JAF official said the army will not allow infiltration and will use force against any attempts to illegally enter the country.
On Monday, the army said that border guards killed a man and wounded three others as they tried to illegally enter the Kingdom from Syria.
Also earlier in the week, Jordanian troops clashed with a group of 10 people as they attempted to cross from Syria, wounding seven of them and arresting three.
The Kingdom is currently home to more than 600,000 Syrian refugees, most of them living in local communities in the north and two refugee camps near Mafraq and Azraq in the northeast.
