AMMAN — Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen on Friday stressed his country's "deep-rooted, strong" relations with Jordan and the continuous coordination between the two countries on various issues, mainly the Palestinian cause.

In a recorded speech at a reception organised by the Bangladeshi embassy in Amman for Bangladeshi universities' medicine and higher education alumni in Jordan and Palestine, Momen referred to the role of alumni in strengthening relations between the two countries' peoples, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Momen also called on the graduates to be goodwill ambassadors for Bangladesh in Jordan and Palestine and to assume a role in strengthening bilateral ties and the existing cooperation between the two countries.

The minister said that Bangladesh’s support for the Palestinian cause stems from the specific policy guidelines set by its founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his address to the UN General Assembly in 1974, in which he called for the restoration of the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.

Bangladeshi Ambassador to Amman Nahida Subhan expressed the embassy's keenness to contact Bangladeshi graduates in order to continue organising meetings and programmes with them and support cultural and scientific cooperation with Jordan and Palestine.

Subhan also referred to the possibility of establishing a club for Bangladeshi university alumni due to their important role in building bridges of cooperation, adding that Bangladesh today is a "model for development" in various fields, including education, health, agriculture, information technology and women's empowerment.

A number of the alumni delivered speeches during the ceremony, expressing their appreciation of Bangladesh for facilitating the process for them.
