AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the validating reasons for amendments to the Traffic Law for 2023.
The bill, approved during a session chaired by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, is a measure to cope with the increasing number of vehicles on the Kingdom’s roads and to remain up-to-date with the technological developments in vehicle types and specifications, ensuring traffic safety and reducing road accidents, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The bill also proposes increases to penalties for traffic accidents that directly or indirectly contribute to loss of life. The amendments also entail establishing a higher council for traffic safety to be tasked with preparing traffic policies and unifying various efforts concerned with traffic and transport.
The Council of Ministers also approved the validating reasons for the Agricultural Risk Compensation Bylaw for 2023, in line with the issuance of amendment to the Agricultural Risk Management Fund Law for 2021, which provided for a bylaw to be issued defining the bases, conditions and caps of farmers' agricultural risk compensation.
It also approved the validating reasons for the 2023 draft law on the preservation of state property for the purposes of tightening control over state property, monitoring vandalism, regulating the mechanism for arresting perpetrators and referring them to the competent court and applying the deterrent penalties stipulated by law.
The Cabinet approved the validating reasons for the draft amended bylaw of the Development and Investment Projects Fund for the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and Security Agencies for 2023, with the aim of directing attention and developing the defence industries and security solutions sector.
The Council of Ministers also approved the committee’s recommendations to reconsider pending cases between taxpayers and/or violators and the Jordan Customs Department and settle 17 cases, provided they pay all the remaining dues or fees and taxes or costs within two months from the issuance of this decision.
