Consumer society questions decision to allow use of powdered eggs
By Petra - May 12,2015 - Last updated at May 12,2015
AMMAN — The Consumer Protection Society (CPS) on Tuesday voiced concern because the ministries of trade and agriculture approved importing powdered eggs to make sweets.
CPS President Mohammad Obeidat said in a statement that the safety of the ingredient is unknown, calling on stakeholders to clarify its effects on health.
Obeidat noted that eggs lose “a lot of their nutritional value” when turned into powder, noting there is no need for importing the product in the first place since a surplus of 14-15 million local eggs are available monthly, according to farmers.
