AMMAN — The Amman Magistrates Court on Tuesday began its deliberations over a corruption case including 22 suspects facing charges of waste of public funds. The suspects included an assistant secretary general, a director and an employee of one of the regulatory authorities, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Information from the case showed that the squandered amount allegedly totalled some JD3.644 million in connection with two tenders for the construction of sewage pipelines at a total cost of about JD14 million.
A ministry had launched two tenders, one at a cost of more than JD8 million and the other at a cost of JD5 million, and eventually there were some financial disputes, which led to the formation of a settlement committee.
The committee has allegedly exceeded its power by unduly paying a number of contractors some JD3 million from public money.
