AMMAN — “Haqiq”, a Crown Prince Foundation (CPF) initiative, concluded its council elections on Saturday with the participation of 1,250 members who voted for 147 candidates.
The elections, implemented for the second consecutive year, saw 84 members win seats on councils in the governorates, while 21 members won seats representing the regions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The council members of Aqaba, Tafileh, Jerash, Ajloun, Balqa and Mafraq won elections by default at the governorate level.
Haqiq council elections are conducted annually to form and choose the 12 governorate councils and three other councils, for the northern, central and southern regions, of the Kingdom. The councils organise youth volunteer efforts in governorates.
The elections witnessed the participation of observers from the Independent Election Commission and representatives from the ministries of education and youth under “high levels of organisation and democracy”, so as to instil and enhance the concepts of effective nationalism, responsibility and loyalty to one’s homeland.
According to Petra, young people participating in the elections highlighted the importance of the effort and said that Haqiq councils are a platform to apply what they have learnt.
They also noted that the councils will implement several activities and volunteer initiatives to encourage young people in the governorates to leave positive impacts on local communities.
Last year, Haqiq councils carried out 363 activities and volunteer initiatives involving 1,500 young people and reaching more than 92,000 beneficiaries across the Kingdom.
