AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Thursday charged a 33-year-old man with manslaughter in connection with the murder of his wife at their Deir Alla home in Balqa Governorate on Wednesday, official sources said.
The husband, who is unemployed, allegedly strangled his 24-year-old wife and then left the scene for a short period before heading to a nearby police station, a senior judicial source said.
In his initial confession before Criminal Court Prosecutor Mohammad Daradkeh, the suspect claimed he had an argument with his wife and “that she cursed him”, the source told The Jordan Times.
“The suspect told investigators that he tied a rope around his wife’s neck and kept pulling it until he made sure she was dead,” the source added.
Daradkeh ordered the suspect detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 14 days pending further investigation.
The victim is survived by a three-month-old child, a close relative of hers told The Jordan Times.
The victim and the suspect had been married for over a year, the relative added.
