AMMAN — During a ministerial-level special session of the Arab League on Sunday, a resolution was issued announcing the resumption of Syrian government delegations’ participation in the meetings of the Arab League Council, and its affiliated organisations and agencies, effective May 7, 2023.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday attended the session, which was initiated by Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Egypt.

The resolution reiterated the commitment to uphold Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability, and regional security. It also emphasised the need for “concrete and effective” steps towards a gradual resolution of the crisis, in line with the principle of reciprocity and in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

Safadi also participated in another special session intended to discuss the situation in Sudan, initiated by Egypt, in coordination with Saudi Arabia. The foreign minister also took part in the special session initiated by Palestine, which focused on developments in the Palestinian territories.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Safadi met with several of his counterparts, including Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Saudi Prince Faisal Bin Farhan and Moroccan Minister Nasser Bourita.

Safadi also conducted a trilateral meeting with Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal Bin Farhan and Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Salem Al Sabah.
