FM meets with Arab counterparts on sidelines of Arab League summit preparatory meeting

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday held consultation meetings with several of his Arab counterparts on the sidelines of the preparatory meeting for foreign ministers of the Arab League council ahead of the 32nd Arab League Summit, to be hosted by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on Friday.
The meetings addressed bilateral relations, Arab issues, activating joint Arab action and the topics on the agenda of the summit, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Safadi met with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal Bin Farhan, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah of Kuwait, Fuad Hussein of Iraq, Sameh Shoukry of Egypt, Ahmed Attaf of Algeria, Abdallah Bouhabib of Lebanon, Nasser Bourita of Morocco, Abdullatif Al Zayani of Bahrain, Badr Albusaidi of Oman, Faisal Mekdad of Syria and Nabil Ammar of Tunisia.
Safadi also participated in the meeting of the open-ended Arab Ministerial Committee in Support of the State of Palestine, chaired by Algeria with the membership of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and Mauritania.
Safadi, Hussein and Shoukry also held a meeting within the framework of the trilateral cooperation mechanism, where the three sides discussed preparations for the summit meeting to be held in Cairo this year.
Safadi and the ministers of foreign affairs of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon and Egypt participated in a meeting of the ministerial communications committee, which was established by a resolution of the extraordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level held on May 7.
The meeting aimed to follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of the Jeddah and Amman meetings, and to maintain direct dialogue with the Syrian government to reach a comprehensive solution to the crisis in Syria.
Talks during the meeting discussed the next steps to engage directly with the Syrian government to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria and address all of its ramifications, in accordance with the outcomes of the Jeddah and Amman meetings, the step-by-step methodology and in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
