AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned Azeri Ambassador in Amman Rasim Rzayev following a statement by the Azeri Foreign Ministry that it had summoned Jordan’s ambassador to Baku on Monday.
The ministry expressed its “astonishment” to the Azeri envoy over the summoning of the Kingdom’s ambassador as Jordan's diplomat was told at the time that the meeting was for discussions rather than a summoning, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
The ministry also expressed its “shock” over remarks that were attributed to the Kingdom’s ambassador in Baku.
Regarding allegations over the Kingdom's export of weapons to Armenia, director of Asian affairs at the Foreign Ministry told Rzayev that the remarks “might be related to trade by private companies that had bought some arms from the Jordanian defence industries”, the statement said.
In this regard, the director said that “the international market is open to private companies that work under international law and constraints governing their work”, according to the ministry statement.
He also stressed that Jordan is “always committed” to international law and constraints.
The director also highlighted the “deep-rooted, brotherly and distinguished” ties between the two countries and keenness to develop them, according to the statement.
