Global Communications Forum of Red Cross, Red Crescent kicks off in Amman

AMMAN — The Global Communications Forum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, hosted by the Jordan Red Crescent Society (JRCS), began in Amman on Monday. 

The forum aims to address several issues, including strategies for building trust and the best methods for combating misinformation and hate speech.

The three-day conference will bring together 180 communication specialists from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement from 80 countries, along with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and representatives of national societies from around the world. 

The event also provides a platform to boost the international community’s trust in the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

JRCS President Muhammad Hadid said that communication is an essential part of humanitarian missions, as this crucial component ensures access to target groups within the local community and fosters an effective dialogue with all segments of society.

The societies have the shared goal of meeting humanitarian needs across the world, and humanising those in need to the media by highlighting various aspects of suffering to achieve a better response and help alleviate the burdens of the world’s most vulnerable groups, Hadid added.

Many people in Jordan, including Syrian refugees and those from other countries, face various social, economic and health challenges, Hadid noted, referring to the importance of reaching out to vulnerable groups by sharing their stories and educating the broader community about the challenges they face.
