AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday underlined the need for the UK to intensify its efforts in the European and international arenas to bring back momentum to the peace process and the resumption of negotiations.

In a telephone conversation with UK Prime Minister David Cameron, the King stressed the need for negotiations to address the final-status issues according to the two-state solution and the international resolutions, according to a Royal Court statement.

Discussions also covered the latest developments in Gaza and efforts to reach a permanent end to the Israeli aggression against the strip and the suffering of Palestinians there, while ensuring them access to humanitarian assistance and paving the way for reconstruction efforts.

The King warned against the repercussions of the “provocative” Israeli measures that target Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem, stressing that such acts hamper efforts aimed at bringing a comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East.

Talks also covered the situation in Syria and Iraq, with His Majesty reiterating Jordan’s stance in supporting a comprehensive political solution in Syria and efforts to maintain cohesion of the Iraqi society.

The Monarch highlighted that the continuation of unrest, instability and violence in the region is feeding terrorism and extremism, calling for effective international cooperation to combat these phenomena.

The King and Cameron also discussed prospects for further bilateral cooperation, according to the statement.
