AMMAN — For the third consecutive year, the Jordan Breast Cancer Programme (JBCP) conducted Training-of-Trainers (ToT) workshops for a group of community-based female activists, volunteers and health workers in Tafileh Governorate as part of the European Union (EU) Support for Civil Society Organisations Project.

The six-day ToT workshops aimed at building the participants’ capacities through training on several health topics related to non-communicable diseases control, including cancer through focusing on risk factors, prevention practices, and on raising awareness about breast cancer, according to a JBCP statement.

The training emphasised the importance of educating women about their health rights, while stressing the importance of their financial and economic independence and their role in influencing decisions — particularly the ones related to their health.

The training also included discussions of topics related to leadership and gender.

The training is one of the activities under the EU’s Support for Civil Society Organisations Project, in the Blended Learning and Behaviour Change for Local Development “Training of Trainers”.

It will  be followed by a training in Balqa Governorate, in addition to a series of training workshops titled Agents of Change aimed at sensitising the community on the topics raised, then conducting community activities to deliver these health and community messages to the target group in both governorates, the statement said.

JBCP is a national programme led and supported by the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC). The programme was established in 2007 to coordinate and lead breast cancer early detection and screening national efforts, providing screening services to Jordanian women, and raising public awareness about breast cancer, according to the statement.
