Jordan condemns massacre of Muslim Rohingya

AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday condemned the crimes, assaults and massacres committed against the Muslim Rohingya minority in the Rakhine region of Myanmar, which resulted in the killing and displacement of thousands of innocent Muslims in the region.

"These crimes against the Rohingya Muslims are brutal and are acts of terrorism aimed at killing people for no reason," said Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani on Tuesday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He said the Myanmar government must take full responsibility for these "heinous crimes" and that the international community must shoulder its humanitarian and moral responsibilities in safeguarding the rights of minorities and freedom of religion and belief.

He called for joining international efforts to put an end to the suffering of Rohingya minority and to work for maintaining peace and security in the region through the immediate cessation of all violence and bloodshed. 

Momani reaffirmed Jordan's condemnation of the inhuman actions  committed against innocent people, as well as the continuation of the policy of ethnic cleansing against the Muslim minority pursued by the authorities in Myanmar. 

He called on the neighbouring countries to shelter the fleeing Rohingya Muslims until peace is restored in their country.
