King reviews region, ties with US Congress delegates

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received a US Congress delegation headed by Mike Rogers (Alabama - R), and reaffirmed the deep-rooted strategic relations between the two countries.

During the meeting at Basman Palace, King Abdullah expressed Jordan's pride at the level of relations with the US, which reached advanced stages of continuous cooperation and coordination to serve joint interests, according to a Royal Court statement.

Discussions also covered the latest regional and international developments and ways to deal with the aim of safeguarding security and stability.

His Majesty also highlighted the major role of the US in various issues.

The King and the delegates stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis and supporting endeavours to revive peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

The delegates voiced their appreciation for Jordan’s role as an ally and partner in achieving world peace and security, commending His Majesty's approach to dealing with various issues, the statement added.

Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan and US Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. Wells attended the meeting.

King’s Military Adviser and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben also met with the congressional delegation on Wednesday, and discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the world.

 

HRH Prince Feisal and Wells attended the meeting, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
