AMMAN — Police on Thursday were investigating the death of a 22-year-old man who reportedly fell from the roof of a four-storey building in Irbid on Wednesday, official sources said.
The bank employee allegedly fell from the roof of the building he lives in on Wednesday night, Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi said.
“All our investigations indicate that the fall was accidental, but we are still questioning witnesses and family members,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
Initial questioning of the victim’s father indicated that “most probably the young man went to the roof for a smoke,” a second source said.
The father told investigators that his son “was ashamed to smoke in front of him and would often go to the roof to smoke”, the source added.
A post-mortem conducted by pathologist Ali Shotar indicated that the victim died of a fractured skull, according to a medical source.
“The victim’s injuries are consistent with a fall from a high place based on Shotar’s report,” the source told The Jordan Times.
Shotar sent blood and tissue samples to the criminal lab for further analysis, he added.
“It will take the lab at least a week to return the results to investigators,” he noted.
