AMMAN — The Jordan Seismological Observatory (JSO) has installed a new earthquake monitoring station near the Wadi Al Arab Dam in the northern region of the Kingdom. JSO President Ghassan Sweidan said that the new station houses two types of seismometers and a strong motion seismograph for measuring earthquake displacement and acceleration, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The new station is Jordan’s 23rd seismic monitoring station, Sweidan added, noting that these stations are situated in strategic locations, including dams, power plants, major city centres and seismic activity hotspots across the country.
