‘Number of cattle in Jordan up by 12% in 2014’

AMMAN — The number of cattle (sheep and goats) in Jordan went up by 12 per cent last year compared to 2013, reaching 3.5 million, according to a livestock census conducted by the Department of Statistics (DoS) for 2014.
The number of sheep also increased by 12.7 per cent last year, standing at 2.1 million compared with 1.9 million in 2013, DoS said in a statement.
In addition, sales of livestock for slaughter went up by 13 per cent in 2014, when 889,000 heads of sheep were slaughtered compared with 784,000 heads in 2013.
The survey was conducted based on field visits to cattle farms, according to DoS.
