AMMAN — More than 1,000 Jordanians took to the streets of downtown Amman on Friday in protest against the terrorist attack on Karak Governorate and to voice solidarity with security personnel.

Protesters performed the Friday prayer at Al Husseini Mosque before the start of the demonstration.

They later marched in the city centre, waving the Jordanian flag and carrying a huge banner showing photos of the security personnel who were killed in the terrorist attack.

Islamist leader Zaki Bani Irsheid said the event expressed public feelings towards the terror acts that targeted Jordan during the past week.

“All of Jordan has expressed one feeling in solidarity, preserving national unity and social cohesion against terrorism, violence and extremism. We should protect this unity,” Bani Irsheid said.

Jehad Sheikh, one of the demonstrators, said he participated in the event to “express how sad he is over the martyrs that fell in the incident”.

“I want to send a message to the security agencies: that we are all behind you,” he told The Jordan Times.

Hana Yamani, another protester, said whenever Jordan undergoes a difficult situation, people are further united.

“I cannot describe this feeling. We are one hand and one family,” she added.

Similar marches and sit-ins were held around the Kingdom on Friday.

Last Sunday, a terror attack that began in Qatraneh town and continued, further into Karak, with the terrorists retreating to the Crusader castle in the city, killed 10 security personnel and civilians, and injured 34 people.

The four terrorists were killed in a security operation.

On Tuesday, four security personnel were killed in a raid in Karak to arrest terror suspects, one of whom was then killed and another was arrested.
