Petra sees 220% increase in January tourist numbers compared with 2021

AMMAN — The number of Petra visitors in January witnessed a 220 per cent increase compared with same period of 2021, the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) announced on Wednesday.
The rose-red city last month welcomed 14,866 tourists of all nationalities, comprising 10,742 foreigners, 1,115 non-Jordanian Arabs and 3,009 Jordanians, according to a PDTRA statement.
PDTRA Chief Commissioner Suleiman Farajat said that the number of tourist arrivals to Petra usually declines in January, compared to December. However, he noted his expectations for visitor numbers to increase in March, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
He also highlighted the authority’s efforts to improve service provision, notably linking the downtown with the tourist street, operating the heritage village, and increasing the number of the city's hotel rooms.
