AMMAN — HRH Princess Muna, chairperson of the Jordanian Nursing Council and World Health Organisation Patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, recently participated in the opening session of the eighth Global Nursing and Midwifery Triad meeting of the International Council of Nurses (ICN), the WHO, and the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), in Geneva, via teleconference.
In her opening address, Princess Muna said she was pleased to be part of the meeting, held in the “Year of the Nurse and the Midwife”.
“COVID-19 has illuminated the relentless efforts of nurses and midwives, jeopardising their own and their families’ health for the care of all us,” the princess said.
Princess Muna noted that “it is important to remember that employment in the health sector is an investment, not a cost.”
“Never has that been truer than today. Health workers are currently keeping major economies from collapse,” Her Royal Highness added, urging all governments to prioritise investing in and empowering nursing and midwifery.
“You have been and always will be my heroes,” the princess concluded, referring to nurses and midwives.
