AMMAN — HRH Princess Sumaya, president of the Royal Scientific Society and chair of the board of trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), participated on Wednesday in a panel discussion at the “Knowledge Summit 2018” in Dubai.
The panel discussion tackled the role of governments in empowering the youth and the knowledge economy, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Princess Sumaya said that the PSUT’s “success story” was a result of the emphasis on investing in the minds of young people and in their talents, highlighting the contribution of youth empowerment programmes to addressing human capital flight challenges in the Arab world, according to Petra.
The Princess also noted that the Arab world needs to transform from an importer to exporter of knowledge, explaining that this desired objective can only be achieved through believing in Arab researchers’ achievements and enhancing cooperation among Arab states in scientific research, Petra said.
Princess Sumaya also called for establishing an Arab code of ethics for scientific research, in light of the divisions and conflicts sweeping the Arab region which, she said, “usually lead to ethical degradation and moral breakdown”.
The Princess said that the Arab world will never enjoy peace and prosperity in the absence of sustainable youth empowerment programmes that seek to enhance the creative capabilities of the young people to be able to deal with the future challenges.
The fifth annual Knowledge Summit, organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, began on Wednesday in Dubai under the title, “Youth and the Future of the Knowledge Economy”.
