AMMAN — The Jordan Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC) on Wednesday referred several cases of suspected corruption to the prosecutor, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The cases, in which dozens of people are involved, include unlicensed investments and illegal use of state land by building tourist rest houses along the Yarmouk River.

JIACC also forwarded the file of a liquidised engineering industries company that has allegedly violated the regulations related to the industry, such as the lack of financial bonds and faking the ownership of commodities worth millions of dinars.

The commission referred a case related to Maan Development Company for suspected violations in the project of the King Hussein Bin Talal University’s student dormitory, which was rejected by the Public Works Ministry committee for not meeting the tender’s standards.

Another case was in Mafraq Health Directorate, where a bogus order form was allegedly issued and given to a gas station in Madaba to purchase fuel for JD50, 000.

An employee at the Labour Ministry was also referred to the prosecutor for reportedly issuing 16 work permits without informing the concerned companies, while an employee at the Jordan Food and Drug Administration was referred to the prosecution for allegedly receiving bribes.

The commission told Petra that the number of cases referred to the prosecutor has reached 78 in 2016, in addition to 43 from previous years.

JIACC has received 943 complaints, the cases of 344 of which have been closed “for the lack of suspected corruption”.
