AMMAN — The Social Development Ministry presents those who leave care and rehabilitation centres with post-care services, which include housing, furnishing, training and employment, as well as health insurance, Ministry Spokesperson Fawaz Ratrout said on Sunday.

The spokesperson said that 29 people — 12 females and 17 males — in 2016 benefited from housing services, which cost some JD20,000, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Twenty-five people benefited from apartment renting services in 2016, at a total cost of JD21,340, while 78 people received home furnishing services, at a cost of JD1,200 for each, Ratrout noted.

He added that 130 people received training, rehabilitation and employment, while 807 people benefited from health insurance coverage.

In 2016, 60 people received financial support that totalled JD10,000, Petra quoted the ministry official as saying.

The ministry also cooperates with other stakeholders, he said, adding that such partners include Al Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans, which annually receives financial support worth JD200,000.

He added that 580 people who left care centres benefited from the fund’s educational and training services, in addition to benefiting from pocket money and housing services.

Her Majesty Queen Rania established Al Aman Fund in 2006 to provide orphans with the necessary education and skills to become self-reliant members of the community after they turn 18 years old and leave their care centres.

The fund also helps orphans who finish high school select a university major or an appropriate vocational training course that best fits their skills and abilities, and meets the requirements of the job market.
