AMMAN — Police on Sunday rounded up 10 people in Irbid who were allegedly involved in a brawl that resulted in the death of one person a day earlier, official sources said.
A teenager was shot once in the head during the brawl, which involved a group of people and took place on Saturday night in a neighbourhood of the northern city, a senior official source said.
“The individuals used automatic weapons, guns and pump-action guns as well as sharp objects in the fight,” the source told The Jordan Times.
A postmortem examination conducted by Ali Shotar, who heads Irbid’s National Institute of Forensic Medicine, concluded that the 18-year-old victim died of a single bullet wound to the head, a second source told The Jordan Times.
“The pathologist also detected signs on the victim’s body indicating that he was also hit by a vehicle but it was not the cause of his death,” the second source said.
Shotar sent samples of the victim’s clothes to the criminal lab for further analysis, he added.
“Once they get the results they will compare them to vehicles involved or suspected of involvement in accidents by searching for traces of clothes, paint and other evidence that could help investigators,” the source explained.
The lab findings and hopefully locating the car involved in the incident “will surely help investigators determine if the two incidents are related”, he noted.
