AMMAN — The Central Traffic Department (CTD) will soon begin its annual pre-winter inspection campaign to ensure vehicles comply with regulations, an official said on Tuesday.
Traffic departments and highway patrols will launch the month-long campaign on November 6, in cooperation with the Public Security Department, Amman Traffic Department Director Col. Basem Kharabsheh told The Jordan Times.
They will inspect tyres, windscreen wipers, lights and heating system as well as external bodywork, Kharabsheh said.
If a vehicle fails the inspection, the motorist’s licence will be held for a week, he said, adding that if the driver does not fix the vehicle, a ticket will be issued.
A sticker will be issued to vehicles that pass the inspection, he noted.
Although no studies have been undertaken into the impact of the CTD’s campaigns on road safety, the inspections play a role in decreasing the number of accidents, according to Kharabsheh.
Traffic officials will inspect as many vehicles as possible ahead of winter, he said.
