Tweissi, British ambassador talk cultural cooperation

AMMAN — Culture Minister Basim Tweissi on Tuesday met with British Ambassador Bridget Brind to discuss enhancing cultural relations between the two countries, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During Ambassador Brind's visit to the Ministry of Culture, Tweissi expressed hope that the celebration of Jordan's centennial would serve as an opportunity to enrich international understanding of Jordan's position, its historical role and its image as a model for stability.

The commemoration focuses on intellectual aspects and includes about 30 programmes.

The culture minister added that the celebratory plan consists of a variety of programmes of a cultural and societal nature, such as publishing five books on Jordan and translating them into international languages, including English.

On her part, Brind expressed her hope that her country would participate in the celebration of the founding of the state with the aim of bolstering a hundred years of partnership and cooperation.

She also alluded to the possibility of utilising the British archive to create a programme pertaining to the historical relations between the two countries.

The ambassador called for increasing cultural exchange and exchange of expertise pertaining to the future of Jordanian and British youth.
