AMMAN — One man died in the capital on Saturday after a rock fell on him at a quarry in the capital’s Ring Road area, the Civil Defence Department (CDD) said.

The worker died immediately after suffering severe trauma, according to a CDD statement, which added that rescue teams freed the body with specialist equipment and transferred it to Al Bashir Hospital.

Also in Amman, five people were injured when two vehicles collided in the Yasmeen neighbourhood on Saturday.

East Amman CDD staff administered first aid to the injured before transferring them to Luzmilla and Hayat hospitals, where they were listed in fair condition.

On Friday, Balqa and Madaba CDD teams responded to an accident when a truck carrying fodder overturned on the Adasiyeh-Dead Sea Road and hit nine parked vehicles.

Emergency services administered first aid to the injured at the scene before transferring them to Southern Shuneh Hospital, the CDD noted.

Health Minister Mahmoud Sheyyab on Friday visited the injured, wishing them a speedy recovery, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Southern Shuneh Hospital Director Fayez Kharabsheh said the accident resulted in one death and 19 injuries, eight of whom had been discharged after receiving treatment.

Three other patients were expected to be discharged soon.

Kharabsheh noted that two patients, listed in fair condition, were referred to Al Hussein Hospital in Salt, and six people were transferred to two private hospitals in Amman.

Also on Friday, six members of the same family suffered food poisoning in Zarqa, around 22km northeast of Amman, after consuming expired food, a CDD source told Petra.

The source added that CDD personnel treated the family members and transferred them to Zarqa Public Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition.
