Dealing with stress

Dec 22,2018 - Last updated at Dec 22,2018

Stress can be defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.

Stress can increase the risk of heart attacks, so it is known as the silent killer.

However, stress is a common part of our life.

Fortunately, there are some tips for reducing or controlling this irritating problem.

First, try to take one thing at a time. For people under stress, their day-to-day workload can sometimes seem unbearable. The most useful way to cope with this feeling of being overwhelmed is to take on one task at a time.

You need to make a list of things you need to get done and start with one task. Once you accomplish that task, choose the next one. The positive feeling of “checking off” tasks is very satisfying. It will motivate you to keep going.

Also, you need to practice your hobbies. Take a break from your worries by doing something you enjoy. Whether it is gardening or writing, schedule your time to indulge your interest.

To cope with stress, you need to be flexible.

If you find you are meeting constant opposition in either your personal or professional life, rethink your position or strategy. Arguing only intensifies stressful feelings. Make allowances for others’ opinions and be prepared to compromise. If you are willing to be accommodating, others may meet you halfway. Not only will you reduce your stress, you may find better solutions to your problems.

It is good to know that good sleeping is a useful way to lower stress.

Getting enough sleep is necessary for a healthy, balanced body. Avoiding caffeine after 6pm, and turning your phone off are important strategies for sleeping better.

In conclusion, you have to remember that life is short, so do not make it shorter by stressing your mind and body.

How many have become frustrated and disillusioned by trying to force a future outcome that was not written, all the while missing out on present blessings? We underestimate Allah’s wisdom and ability to provide for us when we stress over the future.
