‘1.5m tonnes of strategic goods imported via Aqaba port since beginning of curfew’

AMMAN — A total of 105 vessels carrying 1.569 million tonnes of strategic goods have docked at the Aqaba port since the beginning of the coronavirus curfew in the Kingdom, Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management Director Captain Mansour Gougazeh said on Thursday.

Out of the total, 32 vessels brought 853,000 tonnes of oil, six brought 318,000 tonnes of cereals, 11 brought 150,000 head of livestock, 32 brought 22,000 vehicles and 24 vessels brought 211,000 tonnes of miscellaneous commodities, Gougazeh was reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, as saying.

The Aqaba-Nuweiba passenger port received 2,092 transit trucks carrying 52,000 tonnes of goods, while the number of trucks arriving in Jordan from Egypt totalled 2,269, with 58,000 tonnes of goods, compared to 5,000 trucks leaving Jordan to Egypt loaded with 27,000 tonnes of commodities, he noted.
