AMMAN — The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) on Saturday announced a “significant decrease” in electrical loads over the course of this last week.

On Thursday, electrical loads reached 3,070 megawatts, marking a decrease of 15.4 per cent compared to Monday's load of 3,630 megawatts, according to a statement from NEPCO.

In the statement, General Manager Amjad Rawashdeh said that the 560-megawatt decrease is equivalent to serving the concession area of Irbid District Electricity Company, which includes the governorates of Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash and Mafraq with a total area of around 23,000 square kilometres.

The “noticeable decline” in loads was due to the recent rise in temperature, Rawashdeh noted, adding that temperatures on Thursday stood at 13°C at 6pm, which is generally when maximum load occurs, compared to 4°C on Monday.

As for electrical loads on Friday, the maximum load reached 2,870 megawatts, compared to the maximum load the previous Friday, which reached 2,960 megawatts, marking a decrease of 3.4 per cent.

Rawashdeh stressed that the NEPCO transmission network did not undergo any interruptions during the severe cold wave that passed through the Kingdom last week and continued to meet the demands of the Jordanian electrical system.
