AMMAN — France seeks to work with Jordan to realise permanent peace between Palestine and Israel, and Paris is ready to support any serious effort, including at the economic level, to reach peace, French Ambassador to Jordan David Bertolotti said on Sunday.

During a reception held at the French embassy in Amman on the occasion of France’s national day, Bertolotti highlighted the importance for such endeavours to be complementary to, rather than an alternative to, a political solution that adheres to the internationally recognised two-state solution.

The diplomat also spoke about existing cooperation and partnership between France and Jordan in various fields, praising the government’s eagerness to reform the economy to contain the general debt, stimulate growth and maintain the Kingdom’s status as an attractive destination for foreign investments, according to an embassy statement.

The ambassador said that Paris, which is the top non-Arab foreign investor in Jordan, believes that the stability of the Kingdom’s business environment is the main driver attracting investments to the Kingdom.

He added that France and Jordan are close partners in the defence and security field, noting that his country presented a “big pack” of military and security assistance to support the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and other security apparatuses facing challenges related to instability at the borders.

Bertolotti, during a reception that was attended by several officials and diplomats, stressed that France would continue its diplomatic efforts to reach a political solution in Syria.
