15 suspected drug traffickers nabbed as police step up campaign

AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel, in cooperation with other security agents, launched security campaigns across the Kingdom over the past 24 hours, during which 15 suspected drug traffickers, some classified as “dangerous and armed”, were arrested in possession of large quantities of narcotics.

The Public Security Directorate's (PSD) spokesperson said a security force simultaneously raided four hideouts in Aqaba, arresting five suspected dealers and seizing over 24 palm-sized sheets of hashish, 300 narcotic pills, and several firearms, according to a PSD statement.

In Zarqa, two drug traffickers were arrested during a raid on a farm, and 10 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 2,000 narcotic pills were seized.

A "dangerous and armed" drug trafficker in Maan was stopped by police while attempting to transport 3.5 palm-sized sheets of hashish, 2,000 narcotic pills, two firearms, with an accomplice in a vehicle. 

The main suspect resisted the arrest but police officers managed to arrest him, added the spokesperson. 

In Mafraq, security forces stopped a vehicle and arrested a suspected drug dealer and his accomplice, in possession of 11 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 4,000 narcotic pills.

In Ajloun, a “dangerous” drug dealer, wanted in 20 cases, was arrested. Also, two suspected drug traffickers were arrested in Balqa and Ramtha in possession of drugs and firearms.
