16 suspects arrested in drug raids as AND widens net 

AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel dealt with nine cases, in addition to a security campaign in Ramtha, in the last few days during which 16 suspects were arrested, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson said on Wednesday. 

In Amman, four cases were handled in various areas of the capital and four suspected drug dealers were arrested. In the first case, a suspect was arrested in possession of an unspecified quantity of narcotic substances, while in the second case, seven palm-sized sheets of hashish were seized from a suspect who was arrested, the PSD spokesperson said in a statement.

A third suspect was arrested in the capital for the possession of 2,000 narcotic pills and seven palm-sized sheets of hashish, while the fourth suspect was arrested in possession of 1,000 pills and seven palm-sized sheets of hashish, according to the PSD.

Four cases involving drug sale and possession were dealt with in Mafraq and Badia, in which four suspects were arrested, the PSD official said. 

In the first case, a suspect was spotted while transporting a large quantity of narcotic pills. The vehicle was stopped and security agents arrested the suspect who was found in possession of 50,000 narcotic pills. 

The hideout of another suspected drug dealer was raided in the second case which resulted in his arrest. Half a kilogramme of crystal meth, 1,500 narcotic pills and five palm-sized sheets of hashish were seized from the suspect.

In the third case, a suspected drug dealer was arrested and one kilogramme of crystal meth and 3,000 narcotic pills were seized from his possession. 

In the fourth case in Mafraq, 2,000 narcotic pills and three palm-sized sheets of hashish were seized from the possession of a suspected drug dealer. 

In western Balqa, a house used by a suspected drug dealer to plant marijuana seedlings was raided, where AND personnel arrested the suspect and seized 200 marijuana seedlings.

The PSD spokesperson said that a joint security campaign was carried out for wanted people and drug dealers in the Ramtha district in Irbid during which seven suspects were arrested and various amounts of narcotic substances were seized during the search of their hideouts.

All arrested suspects were referred to the prosecutor general of the State Security Court.
