AMMAN — Public school students are set to return to their classrooms on Sunday, marking the start of the new 2023/2024 academic year.
The Ministry of Education on Saturday added that around 1.7 million students in public, UNRWA and military schools are expected to start the new academic year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. These students will be distributed across 4,271 schools, 4,062 of which are public schools.
All necessary preparations have been completed, including the provision of textbooks, allocation of classes and deployment of teaching staff, the ministry said.
The ministry noted that academic students for grades 10 to 12 and the British Vocational Education and Training students in public schools will begin their classes as well.
For private school students, the school year will begin on September 3, 2023.
Education Ministry Secretary, General for Administrative and Financial Affairs Najwa Qabilat had revealed that the distribution of textbooks has reached 95 per cent, with the ministry aiming to conclude book distribution for all grades by the end of this week.
In collaboration with the Civil Service Bureau, the ministry is actively conducting interviews to fill 2,700 vacant teaching positions for candidates with a bachelor's degree and graduates of the Pre-Service Teacher Qualification Diploma, Qabilat’s said in previous remarks.
The ministry approved the transfer of 15,792 students from private to public schools, while 6,578 students were transferred to private schools until Saturday morning.
In addition, the ministry has set up an operations room at its headquarters to oversee all procedures related to the start of the academic year.
